GW Still King?
Just a quick post to say that after a short break, where I tried out WoW and Age of Conan (still playing AoC for a while), I always miss GW. Why? It's just the best mix out there IMHO. The interface is the very best I've seen - just the right mix of depth while avoiding all the tedious aspects of other MMOs. Good community to boot.
Plus...no subscription fee. I've yet to see a game that has given me a reason to switch to a paid subscription.
Curious if others have had this same experience. I am hopeful that GW2 will retain everything that made the first great, and not introduce the same pitfalls other games like AoC have.
Anyway - carry on.

Yeah, I love this game. Even after three years it's still fun. Of course it helps that I haven't even hit ~1000 total hours yet (917 atm, and probably 1/3-1/2 of those are afk hours lol)

I think that's a pretty big indicator of how GW can't compare to other games on the market.

Wow! If you guys hate GW so much you'd think that you could come up with something better to do than to hurl mud at the game. I don't see YOU doing anything useful with you're time. Maybe now is a good time to start... by leaving those that still enjoy GW alone.
I still love my precious GW, but I am growing bored of it, but thus is the way of most campaign based games. There's a beginning an and end, and little new to be discovered outside of the main trail. However that doesn't automatically mean that I should come to despise the game just because Anet has moved on to bigger projects. GW is still a great game, and even with it's minor flaws, and the whiny whiny WHINY community I still find much joy in the game after a year of hardcore playing. At least with GW if I'm still seeing the same stuff, at least I know I'm not being forced to pay, even if I just want to say hi to old friends. And on top of it all, Blizzard (no offense) doesn't seem to put much of the money it earns back into it's product. Take a look at City of Heroes, they're STILL releasing free expansions, they're on what, number 12 now? And each expansion is of moderate size and content, sure it's not huge, but then... Neither was The Burning Crusade. Lineage 2, as much as I hate that game, does the same as City of Heroes, releasing free content on a regular basis. But no matter how many MMOs I play GWs is the only one that can keep me coming back on a regular basis. It's like the old Super Nintendo games like Super Metroid or Starfox, or perhaps F-Zero. Sure you've been there and seen that, but it's still an awesome game.
But seriously... Half the posters in this thread need to... Well... To put it very gently you need to contribute something worth reading, or just leave. At least Zinger's posts are intelligent.
Abedeus seems to carry much arrogance and ignorance with him. Flee! Lest thy be consumed!

Guild Wars time came and went, same with World of Warcraft. I mean sure, Wrath of The Lich King will expand it's life a little, but by then Guild Wars 2 will be in the spotlight. I think it's about Age of Conan now. I usually never play games that have a $15 monthly fee and I think there are many others like me so that might make sense why Guild Wars was as big as it was.

Well, if she had a plastic surgery, then in theory she would be your uncle. As long as your true uncle would know he's married to a he-she. Because if he didn't want... Well, yeah, true.
But really - the main point ANYONE plays GW is because it's f2p after buying it once. If it was $12-$15, people would play so many other games... Lineage 2, WoW, RO, DR, AoC...

That's a fact based argument. Ragnarok Online (4,5 millions accounts), WoW (10 millions), Lineage 2 (700k players) have more players, not counting private servers. We have to wait for AoC to get few hundreds of thousands. Btw, we know GW has 5 mlns of copies. But we don't know how many of them are unique players or active accounts.

- I have maybe 40 games. This is the only game where I've heard people saying "It's free to play" as if the other games weren't. You buy into marketing slogans too much. Is that some kind of excuse?

No, I mean that not too many games with 100k+ members a month are free.
And that's the main reason nobody treats GW as a MMORPG - it's free after you buy it once, although it tries to compete with monthly paid games.
Oh, and we say ,,it's free to play'' when a game is either free totally or it's online-only without fees. The other game that I've seen called like that is Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - free to download, free to play for ever. Just needs a server to play on.

Name one other game in Starcraft's genre that has a monthly fee to compare it with.

I love GW
Even when I've finished the campaigns, I'll still have fun with the quests I've set aside for now, and mapping, and events, and of course PvP.
I'm one of those who actually read the dialogue for every quest when I receive them, I read lore from manuals and guildwiki, and I've got so much more out of the game for it.
I hope I'm not the only one
